Matsubara Market

Lately, I've had a lot of work commitments. The difference between being a freelancer and an employee is really noticeable in these situations. Sometimes, you really don't have time to take a bit of "me time" . One of the things I've neglected a bit, is spending quality time with my colleague and friend Lee Chapman. When I go out with him, I know we'll wander without any particular goal, both open to discoveries along the way. And I also know we'll end the day in a popular little Japanese restaurant, talking about serious and not-so-serious things, catching up and keeping each other updated on our lives.

For our walk, I chose my Leica with the 35mm, ideal for street photography, but I also had a half-frame analog camera for some added fun: my Canon Demi. We decided to walk in two areas we had never been to before, and the choice did not disappoint us.

I love the Matsubara Market. Like some other places that are unfortunately fading away, you can feel the liveliness of the people around as soon as you step into the area. Here are some pictures.

What do you say? Wouldn't you love to buy groceries in a place like this? Having a chat and a laugh with a shop owner, meeting your neighbors, and feeling the vibrant community spirit?
