Cenzo

Today, I want to introduce you to a young and inspiring Sardinian artist, Cenzo Cocca. I'm in Sardinia for a few days to work on a project that will air at the end of the year on Japanese national television NHK. I suggested Cenzo for a part of the project because his artistic research has a deep connection with Sardinian tradition, and every time I've seen him in the past, he always had some interesting project in hand.

I went to his studio to take a portrait, and it turned out to be a pleasant morning where we exchanged opinions and ideas about our worlds. The photos I’ve posted below are details from his project "Friscura", which has been active since 2022.

“Uscire a friscurare” in Sardinia means sitting outside on summer evenings to socialize, strengthening community bonds and preserving oral traditions. Cenzo Cocca's installation "Friscura" draws inspiration from this fading ritual, using the chair as a symbol of connection and communal living. His work contrasts the slow, relational time of the past with today's fast-paced, digitally-mediated interactions, inviting reflection on the value of time, true social spaces, and the meanings of friendship and community.

I'll leave you to the images and encourage you to check out his website: Cenzo Cocca.
