Awaodori 2021

My usual August here in Japan is filled with the happy dancing of awaodori performers all around Tokyo, peaking in the performance of the biggest event in the capital: Koenji Awaodori.

Unfortunately for the second year in a row, all the festivals have been canceled to avoid the gathering of people and the spreading of the coronavirus.

As you may know, I’m one of the photographers of the Koenji Awaodori Promotion Association. This year I’m very happy to have had the honor of having one of my pictures chosen as the main shot for the promotion, even if no outdoor dancing will be happening.

There are also some pictures hanging on the walls of the Koenji Jr station, along with many shots by my friend Jason Arney, THE awaodori shooter.

私のいつもの8月は、東京中の阿波踊りの踊り手たちの楽しい踊りで満たされてる。残念ながら他の阿波踊り祭りとともに、都内最大のイベントである高円寺阿波踊りは2年連続で、人が集まりコロナウイルスが蔓延するのを避けるために、中止になってしまいました。

ご存知のように、私は高円寺阿波踊り振興会のカメラマンの一人です。今年は、野外の踊りがないにもかかわらず、私の写真がプロモーションのメインショットに選ばれるという栄誉に浴することができ、とても嬉しく思っています。

また、高円寺JRステーションの壁には、私の友人であり、阿波踊りの撮影者でもあるジェイソン・アーニーが撮影した写真がいくつか飾られています。機械があれば是非見てください！
