64th Koenji Awaodori

It’s that time of the year when the area of Tokyo I’ve called home for over 14 years bursts into life. After a period of quiet, 2023 brings with it the revival of the Koenji Awaodori festival after a four-year hiatus! And I couldn't be more excited to be once again engaged as the official photographer to capture the enchantment that will unfold on the streets this upcoming weekend.

Koenji Awaodori is a celebration steeped in tradition and joy, involving groups of dancers and musicians who take to the streets of Koenji. The festival is set to infuse the neighborhood's streets with new energy, showcasing the distinctive vitality that only Koenji Awaodori can deliver.

Here are a few photos, offering just a sneak peek of the vibrant colors, synchronized movements, and infectious smiles that lie ahead.

On another note, some of my pictures are part of the exhibition going on till September 3rd at the Za-Koenji Theatre, in the Gallery アソビバ.
