Out of the city

On the first day, we cut through the city with our suitcases in tow. We walk towards Ogikubo station. On the train to Tokyo station, there's a ruthless air conditioning that reminds you how the city's summer takes no prisoners. We board the carriage heading north, and from Sendai, the real journey begins. The tall buildings gradually give way to small houses that become increasingly scarce, passing the baton to the lush nature of late summer.

In Matsushima, the wandering poet Matsuo Basho was left speechless; we have embarked fully on our path. The coolness of Tohoku is already felt.
