Movement

What? Movement in a still image? Nothing new, really. Photography has played with time since the beginning—long exposures, blurred motion, streaks of light. Initially, it had to be due to technical limitations—the oldest trick in the book, you could say. But for me, it never really gets old. Every time I capture the wind shaping the scene and adding depth and new shapes to the composition, I feel like a kid discovering something for the first time.

This small selection of five photos is all about that invisible force made visible. The way a gust bends the trees, ripples water, or lifts a stray piece of fabric—all moments that vanish with a long exposure.

Why long exposures all of a sudden? Because today, I finally had to put an end to my editing procrastination, that’s why. Right now, I’m deep into preparing the slides for my upcoming talk at CP+ 2025—I’ll be on stage at H&Y / SMDV on February 28th at 12:00 PM, talking about some of these pictures and how I use H&Y Filters to capture them. If you’re around, come by! Entry to CP+ is free (with registration). See you there!
